Patrick W. Moran is a scholar of modern literature and culture. His current book, “The Novelist’s Toy Chest,” examines how childish things like marionette shows, butterfly hunts, board games, and kaleidoscopes influenced the 20th-century European and American novel. He has also written on such topics as hoarding, pickpockets, and spy fiction. His most recent articles have appeared in James Joyce Quarterly and Modern Fiction Studies.
