Full- and Part-Time Lectureships in the Princeton Writing Program, 2018-19
We invite applications for full- and part-time lectureships in the Princeton Writing Program. Full-time Lecturers teach two topic-based Writing Seminars per term to freshmen. Part-time Lecturers teach a lighter course load based on the needs of the Program and at the discretion of the Director. Seminar topics span the disciplines; we therefore seek candidates from all fields of study in the social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, and humanities. The Lecturer’s task is to use the topic of the seminar as a vehicle for teaching strategies and techniques of scholarly writing. Lecturers participate in a comprehensive faculty development program, which includes workshops on seminar design and writing pedagogy. In addition, experienced Lecturers contribute to the Program in a variety of ways (e.g., lead faculty workshops, advise on refinements to the curriculum, and collaborate on Writing Across the University projects). In turn, the Program provides Lecturers with ample opportunities for professional development as teachers and scholars.
Successful candidates will be strong academic writers, have demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching, and have carefully considered the role of writing in their courses. The Ph.D. is expected. Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience teaching topic-based writing courses or writing-intensive courses, as well as to candidates with Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC), Writing in the Disciplines (WID), and/or Writing Center experience. The appointment period is one year, renewable for a total of up to five years. The salary for full-time Lecturers in 2018-19 is a minimum of $66,000 (paid over the 10-month academic year) plus benefits and eligibility for research and conference travel grants. Part-time Lecturers are paid on a pro-rated basis according to their teaching load and are eligible for most benefits. The initial period of appointment is September 1, 2018, through June 30, 2019; however, all new faculty must attend full-day workshops May 29 - May 31, 2018, and be accessible over the summer to develop their Writing Seminars in consultation with Writing Program directors. Regular faculty development meetings throughout the year are also required, including full days of follow-up workshops and a Program-wide faculty retreat in early September.
We expect to hire 3-5 full-time Lecturers. Part-time Lecturers may be hired to fill additional needs.
