Julianna Visco, trained both as a literary critic and historian, privileges close reading in her teaching. In her research, she investigates the relationship between the material and literary cultures of Trecento Florence, particularly at the intersection of textiles. With an emphasis on making practices, she has written about the representation of the late medieval wool and silk trades in the works of Dante and Boccaccio. Broader interests include artisanal workshop practices, feminist theory, and theories of the body.
