Philip Keel Geheber studies Irish and French literature of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, especially encyclopedic novels that attempt to represent a socio-historical moment completely. He focuses on manuscript drafts to investigate how historical circumstances inflect authors’ aesthetic decisions and political perspectives during the writing process. In addition, he explores representations of food in this literature and co-edited Modernism and Food Studies, an essay collection examining how artists used food in literature, painting, and film as a lens to explore larger political and aesthetic concerns during the early part of the twentieth century.
